A soccer referee is left with a broken jaw and missing teeth
An outrageous incident occurred when a suspended player allegedly ran onto the field during a game and repeatedly punched and kicked a soccer referee, leaving him with a broken jaw and missing teeth.
Unsettling video shows the moment a brutal brawl left a referee with a broken jaw and a bloodied mouth.
On Friday night, Khoder Yaghi was the referee for a First Grade game between the Padstow Hornets and the Greenacre Eagles at Padstow Park in southwest Sydney.
Then, while he was still watching the game, a suspended player is said to have charged at him, breaking parts of his jaw and leaving him with three missing teeth.
On Sunday, the NSW Police reported that a 25-year-old man had been detained and taken to Bankstown Police Station.
Mr. Yaghi is continuing to heal at Liverpool Hospital, where he will have jaw reconstruction surgery on Monday.
Since then, horrifying video from the wild brawl has surfaced, capturing the moment Mr. Yaghi was repeatedly punched in the head.
The spectator is seen swinging his arm through the air while sporting a black singlet and blue shorts.
During the barrage of punches, Mr. Yaghi can be seen being pulled to the ground and attempting to hide his face.
As a crowd quickly gathers around the two, onlookers can be seen attempting to remove Mr. Yaghi’s spectator.
Mr. Yaghi claimed, “He broke my jaw.”
It is assumed that the spectator in the video is a suspended player.
The Greenacre Eagles announced in a statement on Sunday that they had decided to pull their first-grade MPL team from the competition.
The statement read, “Our club has decided to withdraw the team from the competition for the remaining 2023 season due to the incident that took place following the conclusion of the match.”
This should serve as a reminder to everyone that violence is not acceptable at our club.
The club also stated that it was assisting NSW Police.
NSW Police confirmed that investigators from the Bankstown area command were looking into an alleged referee assault in Sydney’s southwest.
