Man arrested near Buckingham Palace

According to police, a man was detained outside Buckingham Palace after he allegedly threw suspected shotgun cartridges into the palace grounds. Police caused a controlled explosion.

A man shouted: “I am going to kill the King!”

The man was stopped at the palace’s gates at about 19:00 BST on Tuesday, according to Scotland Yard, and a cordon was established.

He was detained on suspicion of having a dangerous weapon. There have been no reports of officers or members of the public being shot at.

According to police, there is no connection between this case and terrorism.

It has been acknowledged that it is being handled as a singular mental health incident.

The King’s Coronation celebrations, which will be attended by world leaders and other royals from around the world, are just four days after the arrest.

The man was also discovered to be carrying a suspicious-looking bag, according to the Metropolitan Police.

Following a professional evaluation, a precautionary controlled explosion was performed.

At the time of the arrest, neither the King nor the Queen Consort were present at Buckingham Palace.

“Officers worked quickly to detain the man, and he has been taken into police custody,” Chief Superintendent Joseph McDonald said.

“There have been no reports of shots being fired or of officers or members of the public being hurt.

“Officers are still on the scene, and additional inquiries are being made.”

The recovered suspected shotgun cartridges will undergo expert inspection. Most of the cordons have been removed, and roads have reopened.

The Royal Palace of Buckingham declined to comment.
